Note to Penner: We Are Michalek's Anonymous

If it wasn't easy enough to dislike Dustin Penner after his Anaheim Ducks beat the Senators in the 2007 Cup Finals, it might be a little easier to hate on the guy after he dropped these lines to some Edmonton journalists...

“There’s really not much to say about the situation,” Penner said. “I don’t think there’ll be much for you guys to write about when we get there.”

Not unless he has another breakout game showing to Ottawa fans what they missed out on.

“I guess that would be good,” he said. “But with the way the season has gone so far, I think they might be thinking that anyway.”~ Sun Media

Dustin Penner is one smug fuck. The way he's been talking, you'd think he was always this fit and productive. Truth is, sans these past 17 games, he's done sweet fuck all for the Oilers and was generally regarded as an overweight salary dump in the prospective Heatley deal. (Well, unless you're pro-Bryan Murray and consider him a genius for having the foresight to try and acquire the previously struggling Penner.)

Dustin, you may think you're hot shit right now and granted, you're playing pretty well. Truth is, I'd rather have Milan Michalek because he's a better player and a little bit less of a douche.

Oh, and if someone would casually remind Jonathan Cheechoo that tomorrow night would be a really good time to start producing, that'd be awesome.

If you're going to the Sens game tomorrow, do the guys a favour and support the San Jose return. Michalek's Anonymous unite!

I can't lie. I wish Murray had somehow flipped Cheechoo and something in a 3-way Heatley deal involving Penner.

Heatley to San Jose
Michalek and Penner to Ottawa.
Cheechoo and San Jose's 2nd to Edmonton.

Your readers will probably flame me for this.

Don't be silly Steve. There will be no flaming. A pitying gaze followed by a rueful shake of the head? Absolutely. Flaming? No.

I agree. I don't like his attitude at at all.

Its not just towards the Sens. It's the fact Penner chalks up his great play this year to MacT being gone, rather than better focus and improved fitness. It's like he's not accountable for screwing the pooch for the last two seasons because he had a coach that was hard on him. Makes me wonder if he understands why and how he's enjoying success this season.

Easily the laziest player in the NHL. He has size, speed and skill yet look what it took for him to start using it!

I don't mean to be a douchebag, but Burgundy, I firmly believe you are incorrect and watched very few Edmonton games last year. I will admit, he obviously put in more effort, but when he was on the top line, he produced better than his linemates and when he got taken off that line, his production dropped massively. Many Oiler fans, at least the few that I know, believe MacT had an issue with Penner (and vice versa).

Just check this article:

Are you serious with this?

How is it smug to recognize that he's been playing well?

The way he's been talking, you'd think he was always this fit and productive.

No, the way he's been talking actually suggests he agrees he's been playing better than people expected.

It's the fact Penner chalks up his great play this year to MacT being gone, rather than better focus and improved fitness.

This is just ignorant beyond belief. Penner has never said anything of the sort and has spoken repeatedly about being in better shape. He has also mentioned getting a new start with a new coach. Is that your definition of blaming the coach? Ridiculous.

...and even if he had partially blamed MacT, he wouldn't be wrong since MacTavish has accepted some of the blame himself on national television.

This entire post reeks of ignorance and an overly defensive attitude, as though Penner threatened to sleep with all your younger sisters or something. Grow up and realize that a guy who is happy to be playing well does not in itself equal an arrogant attitude.

I do consider the belief that even the most innocent comments are somehow a slight against your team of choice to be indicative of severe immaturity and a sad need to release the tension somewhere besides your palm.

Brilliant. You do realize that one of the implications of your oh so biting reply is that you do wear a helmet when writing blog responses?

It only makes sense though, because I suppose you wouldn't want to risk damaging the brain that came up with a gem like "you special ed wannabe."

All I can say is Penner and I have 1 thing in common: Anchorman was funny as shit! Dang! What we dont agree on is Ottawa is a better team...much underrated mostly due to the ridiculous penalties called against them...most penalized team, yet also the team with the least PP ops...what?! double whammy by the refs...and hockey is not a controlled sport like WWE.

Bottom line, Edmonton should have been called on too many men, checking from behind, interference and many, many trips...mostly on the highly respectable Alfy. wtf refs, snap out of it...let the game be fair! your all slaves to Buttmans business plan to help struggling markets.
