Let's Go Dutch On 'Em

Another gameday means another prediction as part of the Ottawa Citizen's panel. Here's what I had to say...

Senators 4, Predators 2

"If it bleeds, we can kill it." ~ Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger's character from the movie Predator)

It's tough to pick against the Senators when the Predators organization is bleeding profusely.

Heading into action last night's action against the Bruins, the Preds owned a 2-4-1 record -- Good for second worst record in the Western Conference. Combine an underachieving roster with some average goaltending and it's a recipe for disaster. Even Sens fans who are concerned with Erik Karlsson's defensive shortcomings, can appreciate the fact that he doesn't share Hamhuis or Klein's plus/minus of -7. Have I even mentioned that Jason Arnott has a significant arm injury that will keep him out of action?

You really think the preds will score 2 Nichols? They have scored something like 10 goals this season, and the sens have only given up more than two to the Rangers and Pens.

Anyways, I read this blog daily and really love it. It provides me with some good laughs and some solid opinions, not to mention the very useful and extensive blog roll. So thanks guys.

I scored some last minute tickets to this one and let's say that by the start of the third I was getting back what I paid to see the game - Absofucking smurfly nothing. It was a fucking comedy of errors led by Pics or Pix or whatever Mr Carkner affectionately refers to him as. Then something weird happened, the Sens started to find the back of the net!

What a roller coaster. From coming back to tie 3-3, to the FAK line coughing up the go ahead, to a manufactured fourth equalizer, to Phillips both helping Nashville with goal 5 to scoring the buzzer beater with 1.6 ticks left. People got up and left on the 5th Nashville goal and missed the best part.

With about 3 minutes left I was thinking now's about the time for "Mr. Dumb Penalty face" and then Phillips flips the fucking puck over the glass - no need Neil - go sit on the pine. Then to boot the bench commits a booboo and plays 5 while on the PK. And yes the refs noticed. If I could see from the nosebleed seats, they'd have to be blind not to.

And don't get me started on the officiating - that bullshit call on Carkner in OT - Wow. Gets bowled over while playing the puck and earns an interference call.

Clouston got one thing right - Picard didn't see much of the second, and kept the bench nicely heated in the third.

Entertaining third period but it was more like a Peewee game than NHL.

I got my moneys worth and we equalled the Leafs season point total after spotting 3 to the enemy.
