New Podcast Episode

Are you concerned with the amount of abuse that you've inflicted on your eyes over the past two weeks by watching Senators hockey? Well, give those eyes a break and engage yourself in some unadultered audio bliss with latest installment of the The 6th Sens podcast. In the lastest episode, Tim and I enjoy a 6th Sens first and are joined by a member of the print media, the Ottawa Citizen's Wayne Scanlan. It's been a pretty tumultuous week, so sit back and listen to the three of us dissect matters like Eli Wilson's firing, the Senators current 5-game losing streak, the Bryan Murray/Eugene Melnyk vision for the organization and Cito Gaston's inability to manage a bullpen.

It's a really candid inteview and I think you readers will really enjoy it. Also, if you're ever in need of a good hockey read, pick up Wayne's book, Roger's World: The Life and Unusual Times of Roger Neilson.

To listen to the podcast, you have three options:
  • You can subscribe to and download our podcasts via Itunes.
  • You can download the podcast by right-clicking and saving this link.
  • Or you can stream the episode below.

Here is the tracklisting for the podcast: Okkervil River Unless It's Kicks; New Bomb Turks Veronica Lake; The M's Big Sound; Josh Ritter Rumors.

I never realized how negative you guys actually are until I heard this podcast. So in sum, you guys want to see the Sens tank it for the next few years to get high draft picks that will hopefully work out? Who has the patience for that? And will that guarantee anything? The parity in this league is so close, if you can make it to the post-season anything can happen. If the Sens are good enough to land a playoff spot, they should just go for it. Sports is entertainment, and seeing the Sens fail for the next few years as you guys would want, that ain't entertaining. And a few years is a LONG time. And with some of the prospects showing lots of promise: Cowan, Wiercioch, Lehnner amongst others...maybe the rebuilding has already begun.
As Sens fans know, landing a first pick doesn't mean it will work out (Daigle), winning a President's trophy doesn't mean anything (no Stanley Cups). Just get in any way you can and enjoy the ride.

Classic Ottawa sports fan. No patience. No vision. Playoffs mean everything. The future can wait.

Excuse me while I punch myself in the bag.

Not tank, just rebuild. There are no guarantees in hockey but you'll have better odds at a Stanley Cup shot if you go for the draft/rebuild route than simply hoping to get into the playoffs every year and roll the dice. Ask the Leafs how well that turned out for them.

Sorry. Not a big fan of mediocrity.

As for our negativity, I prefer the term realist.

I do thank you for not ending your post in "Go Sens Go" though. Usually comments like that are followed by that parting line. Or rather towing that line. Do appreciate you listening though.

@Benjamin

First of all, thanks for posting some feedback for us. We appreciate comments on the work that we do.

Secondly, I'd encourage you to give the podcast a second listen and this time, you might want to listen to it without your head firmly planted up your ass. It might help you hear more clearly.

Your summation of what we discussed couldn't be more wrong. Our exact summary of what the Senators should do can be listened to at the 43 minute, 40 second mark of the podcast. And I explicitly said that I want the team to go status quo and listen to all offers, trim the fat and refrain some short term fixes. After that, Tim mentioned a full-scale rebuild but it's quite clear that it was said in jest.

Other than shitting on Cito Gaston, nothing that we said in the podcast wasn't written on this website in the last few days and if that's us being too negative, then there are some Senators websites out there that we' be more than happy to direct you to.

If you ever want clarity on where we stand, fire us an email, we'll be more than happy to oblige. Just do us a favour and never put words in our mouths again. Thanks.

Please note Scanlan stating that he thinks the Sens should rebuild as well. Too bad you couldnt see Graeme and I exchanging thumbs up after Wayne said that.

Ears are just for decoration sometimes I suppose.

That's why you gave me a thumbs up? I only gave you one because you finally put your pants back on during the recording.

Just a matter of time...

... you'll be off the air soon enough. From the quality of the recordings to your lacklusture guests (that asshat after Mendes, WOW) I really can't see you sticking around for long.

Benjamin is so right about you two clowns. I can't help but wonder if maybe he's on to something, but then I think to myself that someone actually needs to download your podcast and listen to it by choice so really if he has a problem maybe he should just stop listening. Of course maybe he mistakenly thought he was downloading the most recent episode of SU?

Long time reader first time commenter but saw this going on and thought i would chime in. At the twenty-five minute mark of the recording Tim refers to Matt Barnaby and says "I never want to see this team intentionally tank."

In retrospect your thoughts on the schedule look a little off eh? At the time I would have almost agreed fuck are we fickle ... it was looking bleak. But after the first 5 games, they have 10 points. Not 10 after 15. 5 W in the next 10 and 20 points after 15 games is much better than forecast. Unless some of these bubble teams gel and go on a tear .500 will get you in, in the East.

What tune to sing now? Not meant to be snarky but they're staying afloat.

The schedule looks crazy though - any predictions for a Calgary like collapse per Ross Mckeon, after a 4 games in 6 days stretch?

Have Brodeur, Elliott and Alfie restored the faith?
